Radon
The US EPA and the Surgeon General recommend testing all homes in the USA for radon.
Radon is gas that comes from the natural (radioactive) breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water, and gets into the air you breathe. Radon can be found in every home in the U.S. and is a known carcinogen. Radon is the leading Cause of Lung Cancer for Non-Smokers. You can’t see it. You can’t smell it. You can’t taste it. In Florida, 25-33%, or one in four homes, tested has elevated radon levels above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L.
Elevated radon levels have been found in all types of Florida buildings, including manufactured homes, schools, and high-rise condominiums. Generally, the EPA recommends that if your radon levels are over 4 pCi/l, you should mitigate to protect occupant’s health. When radon levels are confirmed over 8 pCi/l, you should mitigate as soon as reasonably possible.
